BIB 613 Song of Songs
The Purpose of this course is to examine the Song of Songs and the way it has been interpreted in the Jewish tradition. The goal is to explore the various influences that shaped the responses of the readers of the biblical text in various periods and lands. Why could interpreter X not accept the explanation of interpreter Y? What motivated their interpretations? Did they know other Jewish thinkers explanations? Christian interpretations? Further, an attempt will be made to draw more general conclusions about the Jewish exegetical tradition and the Jewish textual canon.
