HLT 513 Origen
In this course the main focus will be on Origen's contributions to biblical scholarship. We consider his views on textual criticism primarily via readings in his Letter to Africanus and Commentary on Matthew. We also look at Origen's exegesis and read samples from the three genres which he employs: scholia, homily, and commentary. The samples include a selection from the newly discovered (2012) Homilies on the Psalms, found in the Bavarian State library in Munich.
