PDE 5005 Self and System I

In whatever setting you might imagine yourself as a rabbi, your work will require you to engage in deep listening and care for others.  It may seem counter-intuitive but to develop these skills and dispositions, it is actually your own self-awareness and reflective practice that will contribute to your being fully present to others as a provider of spiritual care.  As such, our focus throughout this year is on developing a foundational understanding of the relationship between the self and the various systems in which we function.  Those systems include family, friendship, academic, emerging professional roles in teaching, learning and pastoral care settings. We will investigate these systems through a variety of reflective practices, including text study, journaling, case studies and group processing.  All of this happens in the context of a structured setting designed to integrate your spiritual, academic, and professional growth.
