Academic Catalog 2024-2025

PDE 423B Ma'agal Hachayim RAB

This course will introduce students to the field of pastoral care and counseling. Through the study of psychology, pastoral care and counseling, and Jewish texts, students will become familiar with: the counseling relationship; the difference between care and counseling; family systems and developmental psychology theories; contracting; making referrals; self-care and other topics relevant to the role of rabbi as counselor. The course is designed to provide students ample opportunity to reflect on class material as it relates to field placements. All students are also required to have a counseling experience, arranged in conjunction with the College-Institute, either during the academic year or during the summer preceding or following the course. The Jacob and Hilda Blaustein Center for Pastoral Counseling will provide a stipend for all students for these field placements
