MGT 518 Leadership Tools for Building and Managing Effective Teams
Strong leadership requires building and managing effective teams that play a crucial role in shaping organizations that thrive. And no professional - whether clergy, CEO, program director, or other - wants to be part of a dysfunctional team. Indeed, recent research shows that dysfunctional teams stemming from weak leadership are the single greatest factor fueling staff retention problems in the Jewish nonprofit sector (including synagogues, Hillel, federations, foundations, advocacy organizations, etc).
This course offers an opportunity to delve into the theory and practice of building and sustaining strong professional teams, where defining roles and responsibilities is just the beginning. Through readings and discussion (including case studies), students will deepen their understanding of how critical the multifaceted work of crafting a team is to everything from building culture to effective project management.
