BIB 5200 Parshanut
This course will survey the hermeneutical methods of medieval biblical commentators. We will devote each week to a different exegete--from Saadia Gaon, Rashi, Rashbam, Abraham ibn Ezra, Hasidei Ashkenazi, Nahmanides, The Circle of the Zohar, David Kimchi, Gersonides to Isaac Abravanel. Students will learn each exegetes interpretive method and the theological motivations that determined their methodological choices. All assignments will be in Hebrew.
